With four-number one albums and five number-one singles, the group was one of the most successful recording artists of the '70s. Their Greatest Hits Album and Hotel California were both among the top ten best-selling albums of the 20th Century. They are the best-selling American group ever, with Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) selling over 29 million copies so far. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. A new Eagles studio album is expected to be released in 2007. The band consists of Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit.

"Take It Easy," "Witchy Woman," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," "Desperado," "One of These Nights," and "Heartache Tonight" are among some of the bands hits. In 1980 tensions ran high, as soon as a show in Long Beach California ended, the band began beating on each other, starting with Frey attacking Felder who defended himself with his guitar. Claiming they had never broken up but only taken a 14-year vacation, the band reunited and has held a number of reunion tours with record-setting ticket prices.

The Eagles News

One of the Eagles is releasing his autobiography. Don Felder, guitarist, has published his story, and this is what his publisher had to say about the book:

"From the renowned guitarist of The Eagles comes a warts-and-all, no holds barred memoir of life in the fast lane. For the better part of three decades, Don Felder was a guitarist for The Eagles, and penned the music to their greatest hit, and arguably one of the greatest rock songs ever written, "Hotel California." Until the moment he was fired in 2001, there wasn't a day that he didn't think the band was on the verge of breaking up. Increasingly divided by money, musical tastes, and monumental egos, the group stayed together longer than anyone could have expected. Here Don Felder tells the whole story, from heaven to hell and back. It was a dream come true, an amazing ride, and Felder is pulling no punches."

It is this explosiveness that always guaranteed tickets to Eagles concerts would sell out very rapidly. In fact Eagles tickets were among the most sought-after throughout the entire 70s, partly due to the unpredictability of the band and their onstage tension.

The Eagles came together in Los Angeles from different backgrounds and locales. Drummer Don Henley had moved west from Texas with his band, Shiloh. Guitarist Glenn Frey, from Detroit, was harder type rocker who decided to try his luck in Los Angeles. Once there, he met musicians Jackson Browne and John David Souther. Bernie Leadon, who plays bluegrass on several different instruments, belonged to the Flying Burrito Brothers. Bassist and harmony singer Randy Meisner had played with country legends Rick Nelson and James Taylor. They toured together in 1971 as members of Linda Ronstadt’s band, but they went off on their own and were soon developing the catalog of songs that would appear on their debut album, Eagles. Maybe someday soon, Hell will re-freeze over, and tickets to Eagles concerts will once more be coveted by folks the breadth of the land.
