After touring with Sarah Brightman in 2000-01 on her La Luna tour, Groban debuted on the AI: Artificial Intelligence soundtrack with his first recording of "For Always." He played Malcolm Wyatt on Ally McBeal in the season finale in 2001, and response was so great he was asked back the next season.

In one year after releasing his debut self-titled album, it went from gold to double-platinum. His second release in 2003, Closer, rose from its spot at No. 11 to No. 1 on the Billboard charts in just two months. The release of Awake in 2006 spawned a 2007 world tour. He has been influenced by Sting, Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, Paul Simon and Bjork. He has released two live DVDs, one in 2002 was a live PBS special called Josh Groban in Concert, and the second, Live at the Greek, came out in 2004.
