Their debut album "Parachutes" brought members Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman mainstream success. Compared to Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and even U2 with their earlier productions, the band's second release, A Rush of Blood to the Head, has also been influenced by George Harrison and Echo and the Bunnymen. After a slow start in the US, Parachutes eventually warmed up and attained double-platinum status. At the 2002 Grammy Awards, the album received Best Alternative Album.

A Rush of Blood to the Head release in 2002 brought the band two 2003 Grammys, and Record of the Year in 2004. The band was named to Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums. In 2005 the follow-up X&Y came out, and it debuted at No. 1 in 28 countries, becoming the second fastest album in the history of the UK. The band's 2005 tour, Twisted Logic, brought them into 2006. Two new albums are said to be in the works, one expected in late 2007, which has also been denied. The band donates 10 percent of their proceeds to charity.
