Aerosmith was based in Boston, and released their debut album in 1973. During the 1970s the band saw great popularity, marred somewhat by their substance abuse and addiction issues. When Joe Perry and Brad Whitford left the band, replacements helped them carry on, until 1984 when they reunited. Since overcoming their addictions, the band has remained sober for over 20 years, and their success has outdone what was believed to be their height during the '70s.

The band's record sales have made them the best-selling American hard rock bands of all time. They also hold the most gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums by an American group. With 21 Top 40 hits and four Grammy's, the group continues to tour, bringing their sound to audiences across the world. The Blue Army, the group's fanbase, stretches far and wide, supporting them in their current efforts and spanning over three generations. They have innovated a number of genres, including hard rock, heavy metal, pop, glam metal, blues and rap.
